As a teacher with years of classroom experience and a background in Montessori education, I’ve seen firsthand the incredible impact of child-led learning and thoughtfully prepared environments. Montessori principles have deeply influenced how I view education—valuing independence, curiosity, and respect for each child’s unique pace. Alongside this, I’m committed to grounding teaching in the science of learning, research-proven methods that support deep understanding and long-term retention of new concepts and skills. Combining these two perspectives has shaped my approach and inspired this resource.

I’ve often been inspired by the dedication and courage of homeschooling parents. Deciding to educate your child at home is a huge commitment—and one filled with both joys and challenges.

Over time, I’ve heard many parents ask how to best support their child’s learning in a way that is both effective and manageable. They want practical advice that respects their child’s individuality, is backed by research, and encourages engagement and independence.

That’s why I created Tips from a Teacher—to offer homeschooling families and educators a thoughtful guide that:

  • Breaks down core principles of effective learning informed by both Montessori philosophy and the science of learning

  • Shares proven strategies such as the Montessori-inspired three-hour work cycle and the importance of meaningful choice

  • Emphasises child-led learning, consistent routines, and real-world experiences that bring learning to life

  • Explains key science-based methods like spaced repetition and daily practice to support long-term memory

  • Helps parents feel empowered to build a joyful, purposeful homeschool environment

My goal is to make homeschooling less intimidating and more accessible by providing clear, actionable tips that honour both the child’s needs and the parent’s role as a guide and partner.

This resource is a labour of love—a way to bridge my passion for teaching, my Montessori experience, and the latest research in learning science with my respect for the unique path homeschooling families walk. I hope it inspires confidence and sparks new ideas for anyone who’s navigating this rewarding journey.

Thank you for being part of this community of learners and teachers—no matter where or how learning happens, it’s a privilege to support you along the way.
